Discover Taos Real Estate: Land of Enchantment Style
Joel has walked most of Taos County with many a story to tell as a young land surveyor. Knowing how to read a plat, find corners and deal with property owners, real estate became a natural progression. In 1987 Joel opened his own company as Realty World-the Schantz Co. with a land listing of $5000. Today, Prudential Taos Real Estate represents Joel and his team of their many accomplishments in helping sellers and buyers achieve their real estate needs.
Of German descent, Joel comes from Pennsylvania Deutch country. He graduated from Juniata College in music & literature and took off to Taos in his 1960 Keiser Willis Jeep 4WD. Arrival in Taos to ski: circa 1970. The Hondo Lodge, now the Snakedance Condos and Spa, gave him his first job as ski bum, Ken Winslow taught him to survey and La Cocina (no longer on the Plaza) showed him the many lives of Taos as a bartender.
Today as a family man, he skis, he shakes a mean marguarita and still holds his surveyor license. His wife, Marny works as manager of the office and his girls still keep him young and guessing.
But, real estate is what he does because it is still exciting to get excited with a buyer finding their dream home and the challenge in negotiating the sale.

As Joel's Personal Assistant, Rachel helps Joel with whatever he needs to keep his business running smoothly and to maintain satisfied clients. Duties include preparing documents, managing client correspondence, doing research, and advertising.
Originally from Butler, Pennsylvania, Rachel spent the last nine years in Tucson. But having fallen in love with Taos while visiting here fifteen years ago, Rachel with her two children, decided that this time she was in Taos to stay! ...and looking forward to her first snowy winter in nine years, and of course, skiing!

Marylin Grainger
Associate Broker and Transaction Coordinator

Marylin has been in the real estate business for over 30 years. She was Qualifying Broker for Pioneer Investments prior to joining Prudential Taos Real Estate in 1991.
As Transaction Coordinator, Marylin assists with the communication between title companies, inspections, surveyors, and lenders. The helping to take the pending contract to close.
With Qualifying Broker experience, Marylin steps in to cover the QB duties in Joel’s absence for Prudential Taos Real Estate. She is a valuable asset to our team.

Yep, and still married after 34 years. As owners of Prudential Taos Real Estate, Joel and Marny share the responsibilities. Because Joel is a producing Qualifying Broker, easing the burden of the everyday operations of the business is necessary. As a one man human resource department, Marny manages the finances, the advertising, public relations, agent working concerns as well as all franchise communications and programs. This enables Joel to work servicing his personal clients.
